Today I open a letter from DJO, a medical billing company in California.  They employ another company, Creditek, LCC in Pennsylvania to provide billing services (and just what the heck DJO dose is beyond me).

Well it seems that some brain dead idiot employee took a laptop to the Bahamas with patient billing information on it.  Now me, I have a laptop and I don’t even keep my carrot cake recipie on it.  I know how easily laptops can be stolen.

Well you guessed it.  All my years of keeping a PO box for bills, business & sensitive information, shredding anything with my name on it and even getting off the cordless when I need to give out information over the phone just went down the toilet.

What the hell was my social security number doing on a laptop in the Bahamas?  I am beyond livid.  These companies that think they can be careless with the very lives of patients.  Everything is tied to our social security numbers, something I NEVER liked.  We need a separate number for medical, property and ID.  That one number wields SO much power in our lives.
